Know before you go
Balmoral is a harbour beach in Mosman, so the water is calm and flat, which is perfect for toddlers who want to splash. There’s a grassy reserve behind the sand, a long promenade, the rotunda, and Rocky Point, a little island joined to the beach by a footbridge. It’s a drive from the Hills, but worth it for families who want the beach without the waves.

The light
Early morning, or a soft evening
The beach looks east across the harbour, so the sun rises over the water. In the evening the hill behind it puts the sand in shade before sunset, which gives soft, even light that’s kind to everyone.
Getting there
Balmoral is on the Lower North Shore, tucked inside Middle Harbour below Mosman.

Good to know
“It was such an easy, enjoyable experience for us (who usually hate being photographed!) thanks again for the lovely session.”
- Is there a travel fee for Balmoral?
- It’s outside the Hills District, so a travel fee may apply. We’ll let you know when we reply.
- Is the beach too busy for photos?
- Summer weekends and school holidays get busy. An early start or a weekday evening means much quieter sand.
- Can the kids get wet?
- If they’re keen, bring a towel and a change of clothes. The calm water is one of the best things about Balmoral, and some of the happiest photos happen with wet feet.
We’re based in the Hills District.
